Dr. Onder Caliskaner
Dr. Caliskaner is a recognized industry expert in demonstration and development of treatment technologies enabling decarbonization of Water Resource Recovery Facilities (WRRF) while increasing electricity savings and treatment capacity. In addition to technology research, testing, demonstration and development, his 30 years of experience includes feasibility analysis, planning, design, and construction management of WRRFs. He has managed three large-scale emerging technology development and demonstration projects for the California Energy Commission (CEC) since 2012. These projects received substantial industry recognition resulting in some of the most prestigious research and development awards, 50+ publications and presentations. Onder is currently managing three other major technology development and demonstration projects involving four advanced primary treatment, three advanced secondary treatment, four advanced sludge treatment, and five novel water reuse technologies.
Onder is an active member of professional associations leading engineering, research, and technology committees. He served as the director of the California Water Environment Association’s (CWEA) Sacramento section, president of the Sacramento/Central Valley Section of the CA WateReuse association, and committee chair of leading-edge outreach technologies. Dr. Caliskaner has over 100 publications/presentations in tertiary filtration, water reuse, primary filtration, carbon diversion, process modeling, energy efficiency, and water quality issues. He co-authored last two editions of Water Environment Federation’s (WEF) Manual of Practice “Design of Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants,” in 2009 and 2017. He authored the tertiary filtration and emerging/advanced primary treatment technologies sections. He received the following awards for the technology development projects he managed: (1) WEF best technical paper in 2018, (2) CWEA 2019 Engineering and Research achievement award, (3) WEF’s Eddy Wastewater Principles and Processes Medal in 2022.
